Kandla Teaching: Day 5

Day five started with nerves; the play would be performed at 9 am for the whole school to see. We arrived at school at 7:45 to help set up. Never did I think it would look as good as it did.

Backstage, the cast started to line up, all fabulous in their detailed costumes made by one of the teachers. Students went through their lines one last time, and before we knew it, it was showtime!

The play went so well; everyone laughed and had a wonderful time. All the hard work was worth it. After the performance, all the students gathered in a room together for a cast party. We had ice cream and asked the students about their favorite part. Seeing the audience laugh and enjoy their production was the highlight for many.

After the party, my mom and I were invited on stage for a final goodbye. Principal Shubalaxmi had a speech prepared for us that brought my mom (and almost me) to tears. The teachers all came on stage for a final photo and hugs. It was all very emotional.

The heat was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced, and it wasn’t a physically comfortable environment; however, the time I spent there was one of the most memorable of my life. The kids were filled with so much joy and enthusiasm. The teachers were welcoming and appreciative. We will always remember this incredible experience and will definitely be back next year.
